Amazing Sunsets: Pune, November 2020

:: Galleries – Nature: Sunsets – Nov 2020:

One of my favorite quotes goes: “Watch more sunsets than Netflix “and it’s something I cannot resist! At every opportunity that I can get, I will not miss a sunset.

One cannot be sure of what it might turn out like, but, even if it doesn’t, it’s usually lovely, to see the journey of the sun (or, actually, the Earth we stand on), as it completes a day. Every season (hmm, well, maybe not the piercing summer here) usually offers some great sunsets, especially, as many photographer’s would agree, when the sky is also a tad cloudy.

It was on once such evening, and though, not very cloudy, as usual, with camera in tow, made my way to one of the best spots in Pune, to watch the sunset, little knowing, that what would unfold would be like none other.

Here, are the pictures of this outing – and surely, wouldn’t be the last for me. So, keep watching this space!

CityScapes – Ferris Wheel Lights

:: Abstract – Lights:CityScapes – Ferris Wheel Lights (2014)

Each summer, with the schools closed, kids in Pune enjoy their vacations, albeit probably mostly indoors to keep away from the scorching heat. However, it is also during this time, that the city witnesses the emergence of fun fairs and exhibitions, with children’s rides and games. It’s a place where families like to spend time, and play, eat and shop.

While it’s still hot then, the couple of hours that people spend here, help them enjoy and forget the heat. This year, seemingly didn’t feel that hot, and as part of my tours around the city on one weekend, I spotted one such fair along the riverside. Knowing this, it was only a matter of time, before I was keen to take my camera and capture some glimpses – and, in what has now become a favorite, I made it to the vicinity around dusk, to capture the lights of the city, the fair, and the reflections these cast on the water.

Here are the snaps from this album – hope you enjoy them.

Magical Rains: Weekend Drive to Panshet (2013)

:: Galleries – Nature: Seasons – Monsoon:

Rains are one of nature’s blessings, and more so to countries like India that are largely dependent on the annual monsoon season – a lifeline for the sub-continent. Fortunately for us, we (individually speaking, that is) are not governed by the vagaries of the monsoon, and that gives us a chance to experience and witness the wonder of the rains.

Close to Pune, about 50km out from the western edge, is a (still) sleepy little place called Panshet. Nestled amidst the mountains of the Sahyadri Range, this is also a catchment area and a source of water supply to many downstream villages, including the rapidly growing town of Pune.

Recently, with the timely arrival of monsoon in India, it was time to head out and enjoy the lush scenery after a hot and scorching summer rendered the hill slopes, rivers and trees dry. It was this thought that took us on a weekend drive to Panshet, and the scenic vistas of lush fields, rain-cloud kissed hills and bouts of sunlight amidst the rain that unfolded cannot be described in words. See the album for yourself [and, we made a promise to come back for more, before the season ends!]
